Personal Information And Email Security Web Survey Voting Ballot

Please help us decide how to better protect our members' personal information.

About three or four times a year, we distribute paper copies of our email and phone list to our members, on the back of the printed agenda, at a regular monthly meeting.

Some of our members think this might be a security risk and have asked us to think about other ways to keep our communication lines open while keeping our email addresses and telephone numbers more secret.

To vote on alternate ways to deal with this, please see our email security ballot

NOTE:  Some OptOnLine customers have reported trouble with this link.  If the above link does not work, try copying and pasting (or manually typing) the following URL address into your browser's address box and then clicking on "GO".  The following is the URL web address of our email security survey web ballot page:

Comparison Of Excel2007 And Word2007 With Older Versions
The 2007 versions of Excel and Word don’t use drop-down menus or toolbars - and that's just one of many differences (improvements???) between Office2007 and older versions.  Using two computers - one running Office2007 and another running Office2003- Paul S. Natanson demonstrates some of the new features in Excel2007, Word2007, and PowerPoint2007 and compares them with older versions.  To download a draft copy of Paul’s speaking notes, go to http://excelvbaprogramming.homestead.com/index.html and click on the FreeCourses link.  Posted by Paul S. Computer Training Workshops - Summer And Fall 2007 Schedule

Based on the results of the Computer Training Questionnaire that was included in EACMA’a February Newsletter, two computer training courses have been  arranged:  An Internet course and a Microsoft Word course.

The Computer Club Internet training course is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, October 24, from 1 to 5 PM at the Computer Training Room of the Madison Public Library.  The lead instructor for the course will be Doris Harris of the Computer Club.  This training course aims to increase your comfort level in accessing the Web and using the Web to find ExxonMobil benefit program, medical, financial and other information. We will also explore the process of buying products online.  The course involves instructor demonstrations and hands-on exercises using the library’s computers.

The Computer Club training course for Microsoft Word is scheduled for Wednesday morning, September 12, from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Computer Training Room of the Madison Public Library.  The lead instructor for the course will be Bob Garman of the Computer Club.  The training course aims to introduce you to the basics of Microsoft Word, a word processing program. At the end of the course, you should feel comfortable using the program to prepare routine letters and correspondence.  The course will also explore some of the more advanced Word capabilities, such as formatting your documents and preparing simple tables.  The course involves instructor demonstrations and hands-on exercises using the library’s computers.

How to register for an EACMA CC computer training course:  If you previously indicated your interest in attending one of these courses in the survey included with the February Newsletter, you have already been notified of this schedule.  If you did not previously indicate an interest, but would like to attend one of the courses please send an email to Rene Bertrand, the Chairman of the Computer Training Program.

New Email List - Please Sign Up.

Please sign-up for our new information-sharing email list.
Your EACMA computer club plans to create a new email mailing list where members can share information with others on the list.  Examples might include:
    ●  computer-related items for sale (or for free)
    ●  help and how-to questions (seeking answers from other readers)
    ●  notices about viruses and other computer threats
    ●  other items of potential interest to people who have or use a computer
Len Barnstone will administer the list and expects to use it to send information (only to people who have joined the list) about once or twice a month.  The list is open to all EACMA members, not just the computer club.  To get on the list, please send your email address to Len Barnstone at lenbarns_computerclub@eacma.org.  Or, to share information with others on the list, email your item to Len who will then add it to the next mailing.  Posted by Paul S.
